Welcome back to my blog! I hope y'all are having a great start to summer! I know I have been very inactive with this blog all year- I'm so sorry about that. Unfortunately, my Junior year of HS was quite busy! Nonetheless, this summer, I'm devoting much more time to my blog.
To that end, I am hoping to bake at least 24 (since I'm graduating HS in 2024) recipes this summer. Some will be new, and some will be my own. Hopefully, I can accomplish this goal in addition to interning and running my cookie business!
I hope my "24 Bakes of Summer" challenge can inspire some of you to try my recipes! If so, please let me know!
A few weeks ago, I decided to start off my challenge with cinnamon scones because I didn't have many ingredients in my house. I used Sally's Baking Recipes's "Master Scones Recipe" as my scone base. Then, I tried to incorporate cinnamon sugar just about wherever I could. And... maybe I overdid it. I usually love having lots of cinnamon in my baked goods, it didn't really work with these scones. They were just... very dry. I know that scones are supposed to be that way, but they were immediately crumbling when I bit into one.
Since Sally didn't include any cinnamon sugar variation in her recipe, I must take the blame for this one. I incorporated straight-up cinnamon sugar into the dough, which was then topped with a cinnamon sugar crumble. It was just too much cinnamon. In the future, I would soften butter overnight and mix that with the cinnamon sugar to make a cinnamon-roll-type filling. As for the scones' dryness, Sally recommended adding buttermilk to balance out the dry ingredients. I'll definitely use that next time.
If you want the word-for-word recipe, I recommend going to Sally's blog. She is amazing! She even explains how each ingredient plays a role in the scone's taste, texture, etc.!
I attached some photos from my #scone photo shoot below, too! And please don't hesitate to comment some suggestions for recipes I should try in the future! Thanks for reading!
